A buffer is a solution that contains a weak acid and its conjugate base (their concentrations have to be within ten times of each other). A buffer resists pH changes.
In the study guide below, we can learn how to calculate the pH of a buffer when the concentration of a weak acid and its conjugate base as given. We also learn how to calculate the new pH when a strong acid or strong base is added to the buffer solution.
